A list of 22 organizations that are operating without authorization and misrepresenting themselves as universities has been made public by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Commission has made it clear that degrees earned by these institutions are not acceptable for employment or further education because they are not permitted to provide degrees under the UGC Act of 1956.

Delhi has the most of these institutions (10), followed by Uttar Pradesh (4), according to the state-by-state list. Maharashtra and Puducherry each have one, whereas Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and West Bengal each have two.

In contravention of Section 22 of the UGC Act, the notification cautions students against enrolling in degree programs offered by unapproved institutions. The commission pointed out that these institutions have a track record of focusing on pupils who are not aware of the formal verification procedures.

In order to safeguard their academic future, the commission has advised students to confirm each higher education school using official sources before to enrolling.
