Skills ministry launches AI programme for school students

The national effort SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness), which was introduced Tuesday by the ministry of skills development and entrepreneurship, aims to develop AI literacy among educators and instill AI awareness and basic skills in schoolchildren (classes 6–12).
"By guaranteeing fair access to AI education across regions, the program aims to close the digital divide and support the national agenda of inclusive, future-ready skilling," the ministry said in a statement commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Skill India Mission.
AI to be Aware, AI to Acquire, and AI to Aspire are three successive 15-hour modules for students that make up SOAR. AI for educators is a separate 45-hour module for teachers.
Concepts include AI fundamentals, generative AI, AI in daily life, programming basics, ethics, cybersecurity, and future employment options are all introduced throughout the curriculum.
At the event, MSDE Minister of State (independent charge) Jayant Chaudhary said that his ministry has raised $14.4 million through the Skill Impact Bond (SIB) through the National Skills Development Corporation to change the way skilling is funded, with a particular emphasis on employment results.
