UGC NET June 2026 : The UGC-NET examination of June 2026 will be re-conducted for three subjects in September after allegations of mistakes in the question papers. The government informed the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will hold fresh examinations for English, Commerce, and Sociology.
This decision comes against the background of concerns voiced by the candidates who took part in the UGC-NET examination of June 2026 and irregularities in its conduct. The case was taken up in the Delhi High Court following a petition by a candidate who appeared in the UGC-NET Sociology examination held on June 30.
UGC-NET 2026 Retest Dates Announced
Based on the statement filed by the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on behalf of the Centre, the re-examination would take place in September. The UGC-NET English and Commerce tests will be conducted on September 9, 2026, and the UGC-NET Sociology test will be conducted on September 10, 2026.
This information is important for thousands of UGC-NET aspirants who had applied for the examinations in these subjects in the June 2026 examination cycle. It is anticipated that the candidates will receive more information about the new examination through the examination authority.
The statement was filed by the Centre in front of Justice Jasmeet Singh of the Delhi High Court in connection with the petition.
Delhi High Court Disposes of Petition
The petition was filed by a candidate for staying the declaration of the UGC-NET results of June 2026. In addition to this, the petition had sought an independent probe into the allegations of paper leak and the need for the re-examination of the same if the allegations prove to be true.
In course of arguments before the Bench, the Solicitor General made it known to the Court that the Government was going ahead with the plan for conducting a new exam for the three subjects in concern in view of the issues raised with regard to errors in the question papers.
Considering the submission made by the Centre, Justice Jasmeet Singh dismissed the petition.

UGC-NET June 2026 Examination Details
UGC NET June 2026 was organized by NTA from 22nd June to 30th June 2026. The examination was conducted in 87 subjects in different exam centers.
The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test which is also called UGC-NET is an examination conducted to check the eligibility of candidates for Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor posts. It is also conducted as an eligibility test for PhD admission according to rules.

The paper on sociology of UGC-NET, which was held on June 30, is one of the three papers that have been chosen for re-conduct. Those who took part in the examination of sociology will therefore have to undertake a new examination on September 10, 2026.
In the same vein, candidates whose examination was affected by the problems in UGC-NET English and Commerce question papers will be required to undergo another examination on September 9.
