Students Raise Hygiene Concerns at DSEU as Campus Water Area Remains Neglected Despite High Fees

Students Raise Hygiene Concerns at DSEU: New concerns have come up regarding the status of basic infrastructure at Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU). According to students, essential infrastructure in the campus continues to be ignored even as the university charges hefty fees from students pursuing various courses.

An image recently taken from the campus, by some of the students of the university, depicts that the water utility section of the university is in a state of unhygienic cleanliness. There is overgrown vegetation, dirty surroundings, exposed service infrastructure, among other conditions that are raising doubts regarding the maintenance of basic infrastructure within the campus.

According to the students, such a situation is an indication of inadequate maintenance of the basic infrastructure in the university's campus. It is because, even as the university portrays itself as a modern university that offers skill-based learning to its students, the basic amenities in its campus do not reflect the same.

Students Question Value for Money

Some students feel frustrated because they are paying considerable fees for institutions which do not provide them with clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities.

"We are not asking for luxury. Access to clean water areas, hygienic environment, proper toilets and maintenance is something that every institution must provide its students," said an anonymous student.

These complaints emerge against the backdrop of discussions among the students regarding the standards of infrastructure of various DSEU campuses. It is felt that when money is being spent on educational programs, infrastructure should be equally taken care of.

Health Risks Cannot Be Ignored

Lack of sanitation near the water bodies may lead to an unhygienic atmosphere especially during the monsoon season when there may be stagnation of water, growth of plants and lack of proper maintenance.

The students have requested the authorities of the university to organize periodic sanitation drives to maintain cleanliness and proper maintenance of the areas near the sources of drinking water and utilities.

Calls for Immediate Administrative Action

Students are requesting:

• Immediate sanitization and cleaning of the water utility area.

• Regular maintenance of the drinking water utility along with the infrastructural facilities.

• More monitoring of the housekeeping services.

• Clear explanation about the use of the money collected in terms of fees of the students for the maintenance of the campus.

• Inspections to maintain the hygiene standard in all DSEU campuses.

This issue has further brought out the question of whether institutions collecting high fees are responsible to maintain basic civic utilities and provide a hygienic atmosphere.

As of now, there has been no official statement from DSEU about the condition seen in the above picture.
