Students protest alleging fee hike, poor facilities at DSEU

Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) students expressed grave worries over soaring tuition, a lack of basic infrastructure, and safety concerns at a large-scale demonstration outside the Dwarka campus on Friday. Students from several DSEU campuses participated in the demonstration, all of whom expressed a common demand for the university management to be held accountable and to take quick action.
According to students, DSEU has significantly raised tuition in the middle of a course without providing sufficient notice or explanation, even though it is a government school. Students claim that the B.Tech costs, which were initially about 14,000 per year, have now increased to 1.92 lakh, a startling increase of almost 80,000 from the previous academic year.
Campus conditions raise health and safety concerns
Demonstrators drew attention to the appalling condition of campus infrastructure. They said that the majority of the water coolers were broken and that there was no clean drinking water. "Despite Delhi's intense heat, there is no air conditioning, the ceilings are dilapidated and in risk of collapse, and the restrooms are unclean. The demonstrators said that there is a serious teacher shortage and that classrooms are devoid of basic supplies, which has caused the cancelation of many courses.
Security, identity issues worry students
The absence of appropriate identification and campus security is another significant issue brought up by the students. Many said that even after enrolling for more than a year, they still haven't obtained formal ID cards. Additionally, students said that there are no security personnel at the school gates, which allows strangers to enter without authorization. This presents a significant security risk, especially for female students.
AICTE approval in question
The purported lack of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approval for the university's technical programs was one of the protest's most concerning findings.
Students claim that DSEU's name is missing from the most recent AICTE list, despite the university's website indicating otherwise. Their eligibility for higher education, employment, and internships may be significantly impacted by this.
Allegations of misdirection, intimidation
Students who are protesting claim that when they have tried to voice their concerns to the university's higher officials, they have either been ignored or verbally abused. At the demonstration, posters with the slogans "We want AICTE approval" and "Say no to illegal fee hike" demanded justice and prompt action.
Key demands of the students
The students are demanding the following:
- Immediate rollback of the fee hike
- AICTE approval for all technical programs
- Functional infrastructure, clean water, and sanitation
- Issuance of official ID cards
- Enhanced campus security
- Timely declaration of academic results
Transparent and responsive administration
