Significant Syllabus Changes for Classes 10 and 12 Announced by CBSE

To improve the academic framework and increase the opportunities for skill-based learning, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made major revisions to the syllabus for Classes 10 and 12.
The board now requires Class 10 students to choose one of three skill-based subjects: artificial intelligence, information technology, or computer applications. Additionally, pupils can enroll in either Class 9 or Class 10 and must select either Hindi or English as one of their language studies.
In a significant change, students can now use a passed skill subject or an elective language course to make up for a failing grade in a core subject like science, math, social science, or language.
Students in class 12 will also notice new curricular enhancements. Land Transportation Associate, Electronics and Hardware, Physical Activity Trainer, and Design Thinking and Innovation are the four new skill-based electives that have been added. The goal of this redesign is to conform to the increasing focus on practical and vocational skills.
Languages, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences, Skill Subjects, General Studies, and Health & Physical Education are the seven main study areas that are now covered in the updated Class 12 syllabus. In addition to updating the syllabus, CBSE has changed the grading standards for the Class 10 and 12 board exams. Grades will now be assigned using a 9-point system.
Exam-wise, beginning with the current school year, Class 10 pupils will now take the board exams twice a year, in February and April. However, class 12 examinations will still be administered every year, and the 2026 exams are scheduled to start on February 17.
