...

Uttar Pradesh's first forest university is set to be established in Gorakhpur. Encompassing 125 acres, the facility will emphasize the thorough research of forests, wildlife, and environmental sciences among other areas. The project was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who remarked that the university would enable students to gain a deeper understanding of the topics related to forestry, flora, and fauna. The last assessment is also taking place on the draft of the act for the university. The construction work is planned to commence following the approval of the DPR by the cabinet.

Adjacent to the university will be the Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Center. On September 6, 2024, the Chief Minister made the initial announcement of the proposal here.

The state budget earmarked Rs 50 crore that year to initiate the process. The government's approval has now been granted for the 125-acre land plot identified for the project.

Subject areas that the university will cover include forestry, agroforestry, social forestry, and horticulture, among others. Students aspiring for careers in forest science and conservation can opt for degree as well as diploma programs.

According to the infrastructure plan, there are to be separate dormitories for male and female students with a total capacity of about 500 rooms.

According to officials, the construction will be done in a way that will support both academic and field-based research. The establishment of the forest university is considered to escalate the state into a biotechnology research hub.
