Education Ministry cuts revaluation fees : By describing the recently implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) method in CBSE Class 12 exams as "foolproof" and compliant with international standards, the Ministry of Education has attempted to ease worries. Apart from reducing the fees for revaluation and answer sheet verification to Rs 100, it was said that this was done to make the process completely transparent.

While speaking at a press conference, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary for school education, elaborated on the scope and security aspects of the process. There were a total of 98 lakh scanned sheets for class 12 students. Three layers of security had been followed during the process. "It has been found out that despite scanning, there have been issues of illegibility. This is due to the fact that some of the sheets had answers written with light colors.”

CBSE Class 12th Results 2026: Scale of rechecks

–A total of 98.6 lakh answer books were scanned under OSM.

–68,018 answer books were rescanned due to poor scan quality.

–13,583 answer books were manually evaluated after persistent quality issues, with marks uploaded separately.

As was observed by the board, over 80,000 answer scripts required corrections in the OSM process of CBSE Class 12 exams. Out of the total number of 98.6 lakh answer scripts that had been scanned, nearly 68,018 required re-scanning because of low-quality images. Also, 13,583 answer scripts needed manual corrections due to persistent issues. In such situations, in an effort to protect students' performance from being impacted negatively due to technical problems, evaluators noted the deficiencies and marks were entered separately.
