Delhi govt. to introduce ordinance to regulate private school fee hikes

According to authorities, the Delhi government plans to enact an ordinance to curb disproportionate tuition rises in private schools. The planned Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, which aims to create precise rules on school fees throughout the city, is preceded by this action.
The ordinance will act as a stopgap measure until the law is properly introduced during the Delhi Assembly's monsoon session, and it is anticipated to be adopted within a week. The idea has already been sent to the law department for additional consideration, according to sources.
When it comes to state government, an ordinance is a legislation that is passed while the legislature is not in session. The Assembly then has the option to accept, modify, or reject the ordinance. The draft measure was originally supposed to be passed during a special session on May 13–14, which ultimately did not take place.
The bill will set stringent regulations to stop arbitrary fee increases in private schools, according to a senior official from the Delhi administration. The Director of Education would have the power to impose a punishment of Rs 50,000 per student, one of the penalties listed, on any institution found to have raised fees unfairly.
