Delhi Police have arrested nine persons, including the owners and directors of three coaching institutes, in a massive educational fraud case for duping the government to the tune of around Rs. 37 crore.
The nine accused were reportedly involved in making fake records of students for obtaining undue benefits through Jai Bhim Chief Minister Pratibha Vikas Yojana Scheme, according to police officials. The scheme was launched by the AAP government to provide economic assistance to poor students for coaching.
It has been reported that the coaching centers made fake records, enrolled absent kids or ineligible candidates and sought reimbursement from the government.
To locate individuals and organizations that may be involved with the scheme, law enforcement is pursuing a legal case. Furthermore, it has been insinuated that stricter monitoring processes will be adopted so as not to perpetuate misuse of government support programs in the future.
This case raises serious concerns about accountability and transparency in the administration of student aid programs in the country's capital.
