CBSE Class 10, 12 result: Analysis

The number of high-scorers—those who scored above 90% and 95%—in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 and 12 exams decreased somewhat from the previous year, with girls once again surpassing boys. Results for more than 38 lakh students were made public by the board on Tuesday; overall pass rates in both classes showed slight increases.
The overall pass rate for Class 12 increased to 88.39% from 87.98% the previous year. The percentage in Class 10 increased little from 93.60% in 2024 to 93.66%. With a significant margin of victory over boys—5.94 percentage points in Class 12 and 2.37 points in Class 10—girls maintained their advantage.
This year, all transgender pupils who took the Class 12 exam passed, which is a significant change from 2024, when the pass rate was 50%. Additionally, their Class 10 pass percentage increased to 95% from 91.3% the previous year. The number of transgender applicants who took the tests was not made public by the board, though.
There was a minor decline in the number of pupils placing in the top groups. In Class 12, 24,867 pupils above the 95% mark, and 1,11,544 students received scores above 90%. Both figures show a little decrease from 2024, when 24,068 students earned more than 95% and 1.16 lakh students scored above 90%. Of these, 55 scored below 95% and 290 children with special needs (CSWN) scored above 90%.
Similar trends were observed in Class 10, where 45,516 pupils scored above 95%, little less than the 47,000 who did so in 2024, and 1.99 lakh students scored over 90%, down from 2.12 lakh the previous year. 66 of them above 95%, and 411 of them were CSWN students.
The CBSE has maintained its policy of not releasing a merit list or giving out first, second, or third divisions based on marks in order to prevent unhealthy rivalry.
With more than 1.41 lakh students in Class 10 and more than 1.29 lakh in Class 12 scheduled to reapply for one or more courses, the number of students placed in the supplementary or compartment category increased somewhat this year.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas was once again the institution with the highest success rates at both levels.
