Victoria University Opens First India Campus in Gurugram: With regard to international higher education in India, a very encouraging development is the opening of the very first campus of Australia's Victoria University (VU) in India, in the city of Gurugram of Delhi NCR region, which is a landmark development according to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The VU campus in India is one of the first international branch campuses opened by an Australian university in India as per regulations laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC) allowing top foreign universities to establish themselves in the country. Victoria University has been granted permission to establish itself in India from 2025 onwards and has begun its academic operations from 2026.
The university will start its academic operations with undergraduate and postgraduate programs in subjects like Business, Information Technology, Data Science, Cyber Security, Sports Management and Research & Innovation. Students at the India campus will follow the same curriculum as their peers at the Melbourne campus making their degrees internationally recognized.
The most important thing about the India campus is that it incorporates the globally renowned VU Block Model® by Victoria University where the students study just one subject at once rather than studying a number of subjects at the same time.
The officials from the university said that the new campus has been designed after the pattern of the modern city tower campus of Victoria University located in Melbourne, including advanced class rooms, learning spaces, digital labs, and industrial facilities. The university has decided to create strong partnerships with companies in India and other countries to provide internship and live projects to the students.
The students in the India campus will be allowed to move to Melbourne campus during their education to gain global experience without having to spend much money studying the whole degree there. Scholarships and waiver of tuition fees will also be offered to students of the inaugural batches.
Experts in the education field hold that the launch of the India campus of Victoria University shows the increasing internationalization of India's education sector amid NEP 2020. Over the past few years, the government has been advocating for some globally acclaimed universities to set up their campuses in India so that students get world-class education without going abroad.
The step will prove to be beneficial for many Indian students who desire to obtain an internationally acknowledged degree but are unable to do so due to the high cost associated with education abroad. The step will allow students to cut down their expenses regarding fees, accommodation, travel, and other costs while getting their education following the Australian standards.
