DU’s first UG seat allocation releasing today

New Delhi, July 16: After months of wait, the dream of lakhs of students aspiring to get into college will soon be realized as University of Delhi is all set to declare the first round of seat allocation for UG admissions in 2026-27 session through its CSAS-UG portal today at 5 pm. The declaration is considered to be one of the key moments this year as far as admissions are concerned, with students eagerly awaiting their admission into their desired college and course.

Delhi University once again saw an enthusiastic participation from students this year. Over 2.73 lakh students applied for admissions in undergraduate programs, while over 2.06 lakh students have filled up their preferences for program and colleges on CSAS portal. With over 71,624 undergraduate seats being available in 69 colleges and departments, the contest for admission into various undergraduate programs is likely to be fierce especially for popular programs such as B.Com (Hons.), B.A. (Hons.) Economics, Political Science, Psychology, English, Computer Science, B.Sc. and many more.

The admission process for Delhi University is now fully based on CUET UG 2026 results, with the previous admission process based on Class 12 merit having been abolished. Via the CSAS portal, it was necessary for candidates to map their CUET subjects, confirm their eligibility, and choose their desired college and program combinations.

How to Check the Seat Allocation

Students may verify their allotted college and program by accessing the official CSAS website through their CUET application account. Once logged in, students shall find their allotted college, program, and other information on the same platform.

What Happens After Seat Allocation?

It is very important for students who have been offered a seat in the first round to fulfill the admission formalities before the set deadlines. The process of admission involves:

•           Allotment of seat via the online process within the specified period.

•           Upload and verification of all necessary documents.

•           Verification of certificates by college authorities.

•           Payment of the admission fee.

If these processes are not followed by the candidate in time, the allotted seat will be cancelled. So, candidates need to make sure that all necessary documents such as mark sheets of Class 10 and 12, CUET score card, category certificates (if any), migration certificate, passport size photograph and identity proofs are ready.

Upgrade Option Available

The other major strength of the admission system is the upgrade facility. For candidates who accept the allotted seat but want admission in a more preferred college/programme, there is an option of upgrading in the next round. Once upgraded, the seat previously allotted is released automatically in order to accommodate another eligible candidate. Satisfied candidates can go ahead and freeze their admission after paying the fees.

What If You Don't Get a Seat?

Those students who have failed to get a seat through the first round of allocation should not panic at all. Delhi University will conduct various rounds of counseling depending upon the number of available seats. Eligible candidates will automatically be called for the further rounds of allocation without having to apply again. The second list of allocations will be released by the end of this month.

Popular Courses Continue to Witness High Competition

Like in previous years, B.Com (Hons.) continues to be the most popular undergraduate course, while Economics (Hons.), Psychology (Hons.), English (Hons.), Political Science (Hons.), Computer Science, as well as other science courses, follow close behind. Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Hindu College, Hansraj College, Lady Shri Ram College, Miranda House, St. Stephen’s College, Kirori Mal College, and Sri Venkateswara College are some of the many colleges that consistently receive high CUET scores because of their reputation and placement opportunities.

Every Seat Matters This Year

Admission specialists think that this time the competition is really high because there are more than three candidates trying for one place for undergraduate courses. Although the best colleges at the North campus are believed to have cut-off marks very high according to CUET marks, the candidates who have moderate CUET marks can still get admission in various other colleges at South campus and off-campus colleges.

Important Advice for Students

Educationists have cautioned candidates to take care to not do anything wrong at the eleventh hour after the seat allotment process takes place. The candidates are supposed to frequently keep themselves updated through the admission portal, e-mail ID, and mobile number regarding announcements by Delhi University. Failure to accept the seats, submit necessary documents, or pay fees might result in cancellation of the admission.

They should also ensure that all uploaded documents are legible. Students opting for seats under reserved quotas are required to upload necessary certificates in the prescribed format.

A Crucial Day for Lakhs of Aspirants

The release of the first seat allocation list it signifies that a new phase in the academic career of countless students who have been putting in their best effort all year long to get admission into one of the most elite universities in India has commenced.
