DU UG Admission 2026: An overwhelming response has been seen in the first round of admissions of undergraduates for the 2026-27 academic session in Delhi University (DU), with more than 81,000 candidates accepting their seat allocations in Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG 2026).
The impressive response is indicative of the ongoing popularity of DU among candidates from all over the country and reflects the success of the admission process of this year.
As per the latest figures revealed by the university, 81,979 candidates have accepted their allotted seats out of 93,033 seat allocations made in the first round of counseling at the rate of 88.12%. This figure indicates that students are enthusiastic about getting admitted into one of the most prestigious universities of India.
Delhi University had declared the first round of seat allocations on July 19 after the end of the preference filling exercise in the CSAS portal. Candidates who got their seats in the first round of counseling were needed to accept their seat allocations before the deadline, after which verification of documents and admission approval process started in colleges.
Massive Participation in CSAS 2026
The admission process to various undergraduate programs saw an incredible amount of applications this year. Over 2.08 lakh students entered their choice for program and college in Phase-II of the Common Seat Allocation System on the basis of their CUET (UG) 2026 scores. Based on their preferences and scores, Delhi University allotted over 93,000 seats despite having a total undergraduate intake of only around 71,000 seats in all its colleges.
The purpose behind allotting seats higher than the actual intake is that a considerable number of students choose not to join the allotted college or have withdrawn their applications or moved to higher preferences in further rounds. This practice helps the university ensure that there are minimum vacant seats and the colleges get completely filled up before the start of the academic year.
According to admission experts, the high acceptance rate in the first round proves the success of DU’s centralized admission system as well as the faith of the students in CSAS process.
Document Verification Underway
After accepting seats, universities have begun verifying the uploaded documents, which include class 10 & 12 certificates, CUET scorecard, category certificate (if any) and others.
According to university officials, more than 33,000 applications have been verified and accepted by colleges, while around 21,500 students have been able to get admission to the college by paying admission fees. This number is estimated to go up significantly until the deadline for paying fees arrives.
The entire verification process is going on through an online procedure, enabling students from all over the country to enroll themselves in college admissions.
Upgrade Option Available for Students
Those students who have accepted the allotted seats can still switch from their currently enrolled institutions. The Upgrade facility has been offered by Delhi University once again, which lets students keep their current allotment and be eligible for better preferences in the next counseling round.
In case if the candidate gets an upgraded seat in Round 2, then his earlier seat will automatically get cancelled. This is an advantage given by the university that allows students to get a seat without being concerned about their future preferences.
The admission counselors have advised the students to take a decision regarding whether to go for an upgrade or not based on previous cutoff trends and preference order.
Second Round Expected to Witness Fresh Competition
CSAS seat allotment round two is all set to be declared on July 25 after colleges have done the formalities of verification and fee payment for the first round.
Aspirants who could not get any seat in round one along with those wishing to upgrade will take part in round two. As there are vacancies going to occur from withdrawals and upgradations, numerous candidates can still hope for getting admission in prestigious colleges.
According to experts, there may be some change in cut-offs of certain courses in round two based on the number of vacancies occurred.
University Urges Students to Complete Formalities
The Delhi University has informed all those students who have taken up the admission seats to check the website of admissions regularly for any notifications regarding the verification of documents, fee payment, and confirmation of admissions.
The officials have further warned the students against trusting rumors on the internet or social media platforms regarding cutoffs or counseling dates. All the notifications are being released only through the official admission portal of the university.
Students having issues with their documents are required to reply immediately to the queries raised by the college authorities.
