Bhagavad Gita Lessons at Gagan Bharti Public School : As part of an inspirational effort to promote excellence both academically and personally, Uttam Krishna Das of Raman Bihari Gaudiya Math, Janak Puri, held motivational classes for students of Classes 11 and 12 studying at Gagan Bharti Public School, Uttam Nagar. Through interactive classes, the main focus was to help the students cope with academic pressure, concentrate well and adopt a disciplined attitude towards learning using the teachings of the ancient scriptures of the Bhagavad Gita.
Board exams and competitive entrance exams being around the corner, the students are bound to face stress, distractions and uncertainty regarding the future. To address all this, Uttam Krishna Das enlightened the students about how success in studies is not gained by mere hard work or studying long hours but by gaining control over the mind. Citing examples from different verses of the Bhagavad Gita, he told the students that discipline, self-control and determination are the essence of success in academics.
During his sessions, he motivated the students to develop the power of concentration by managing their distractions and being dedicated to their obligations. Talking about the concept of Karma Yoga in the Bhagavad Gita, he suggested to the students that they should concentrate on making efforts rather than getting worried about the outcomes of the examinations. He believes that getting too worried about the outcomes affects confidence and makes it difficult for one to achieve success.
The sessions were interactive as students could ask questions regarding exam stress, peer pressure, addiction to social media and other related issues. He patiently answered each question in relation to the challenges that the modern world poses today and explained the same with reference to the teachings of Bhagavad Gita. He made it clear that although technology is an inevitable part of the life of the students, its excessive use becomes the biggest hurdle for concentration.
Another one of the main highlights in these motivational classes was the topic of mental stability. Uttam Krishna Das said that there is fear of failure among students because they keep comparing themselves with others. The Bhagavad Gita advises people to concentrate on their development instead of participating in harmful competitions. Each student is blessed with his or her own talents, and it is much more important to discover one's talents than to prove oneself to others constantly.
Also, he advised the students to develop a routine which would involve study, good sleep, maintaining good health, and some time for reflection or meditation. He says that such a disciplined mind will help in acquiring knowledge better and being confident when taking exams. He also recommended reading some of the verses from the Bhagavad Gita because according to him, it will give wisdom and confidence to face life's challenges.
These teachers and school administrators were pleased with the endeavor, stating that such value-based discussions can be a good addition to classroom teaching because they encourage personal growth along with academic success. They stated that though schools teach us knowledge and skills, the motivational interactions with ethical values make us responsible, confident, and emotionally stable individuals.
Those who participated in the discussions stated that it was an eye-opening and motivating experience. They said that practical discussions about The Bhagavad Gita enabled them to concentrate on studies without being affected by exam stress. Several students mentioned that they would improve their study methods, learn how to manage their time effectively, and take their academic duties more seriously.
The motivational programme was based on the increased awareness that education is not merely about books and exams, but about the development of values, discipline and strength within oneself. Through the interactive sessions conducted by Uttam Krishna Das, it was revealed that the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita is still relevant today to the youth, as an aid in combating distractions and in achieving excellence.
In the present era where there is increasing importance placed on holistic education in institutions, such programmes act as a reminder that success does not only involve theoretical knowledge, but also having sound morals. Through the introduction of students to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita in the sessions conducted in Gagan Bharti Public School, the students were motivated towards exams as well as life in general.
